Recently, I’ve been experimenting with a lot of those gimmicky “three ingredient” recipes. Sometimes they’re interesting, pared-down, super simplistic versions of recipes, but work out well. Other times they use an “ingredient” that’s really a whole mix. It’s like a “three-ingredient brownies” recipe that calls for a box of brownie mix, oil, and an egg. And, of course, sometimes you find pared-down recipes that just don’t work.

Today’s is one of the first category. These drop biscuits are super simple, and while one of the ingredients is technically a mix, it’s a commonplace mix and it’s really simple to make yourself if you need to.

The end result here is a simple, easy to make biscuit with a rich butter flavor. It’s basic, but it’s also something you could enhance, like mixing in some cheese or herbs to spice it up.

The “mix” ingredient, by the way, is self-rising flour. It’s readily available basically everywhere so you shouldn’t have trouble finding it. But, if you don’t have it on hand and you really want some biscuits tonight, you can just make it yourself.

For this recipe, you need two cups of self-rising flour. To make that, mix up two cups of basic all-purpose flour, three teaspoons of baking powder, and half a teaspoon of salt. That’s really all it is!

Three-Ingredient Buttery Drop Biscuits
Equipment
- Mixing Bowls
- Cast Iron Skillet
Ingredients
- 2 Cups Self-Rising Flour
- 1 Stick Salted Butter Chilled and Cubed
- 2 Tbsp Salted Butter Melted
- 1 Cup Whole Milk Cold
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 450℉.
- Cut and mix the cold butter with the flour to make something coarse and grainy. Add in the cold milk and stir until it comes together into a dough, but don't over-mix. If it's too dry, add a bit more milk.
- Using a ¼ cup measuring cup, drop dollops of the biscuit dough into your skillet. Don't worry if they touch a bit.
- Bake the biscuits for 20-25 minutes, until they're turning golden-brown. When they're done, remove them from the oven and brush them with the melted butter for extra flavor. Tip: An herb or compound butter goes great here!
