Since Thanksgiving is almost here, I’m calling this a light week while I prep my whole meal plan for the holiday. I’m only cooking for two (and with help) so it’s not as much as most of you are, but it’s still a lot. So, enjoy this low-effort, easy to make recipe!
In this case, I decided to try playing around with flavoring crackers. Sure, you can just buy flavored crackers from the store, but they’re often not quite what you want, or you can’t find the ones you like, or they just get discontinued, which keeps happening to me. So, I figured out how to add flavor to plain crackers.
Turns out, it’s pretty easy. All you need is a spice mix you like and some butter to help it adhere to the crackers. Since this softens the crackers, you bake them to crisp them back up.
In this case, I was trying out a dill-ranch combo. It’s easy to find a good spice mix for ranch, we love dill in this house, and it’s a simple spice combo that works well even if it doesn’t end up balanced. In my case, it ended up heavy on the garlic, so I adjusted the recipe.
I also plan to try out other flavor combinations in the future, so if you’re into flavoring crackers to make healthier, less oily, and more customized than store-bought, keep an eye on this space. I’ll update the post as I go!
Dill-Ranch Mix
All you need for a delicious, potent dill-ranch mix for your one sleeve of saltine crackers is:
- 2 Teaspoons of Ranch Powder
- 1 and 1/4 Teaspoons of Pickle Juice
- 1 Teaspoon of Dill
- 1/8 Teaspoon of Garlic Powder
Follow the steps in the recipe below to make delicious ranch saltines. And, of course, if you want to do a whole box (four sleeves) of saltines, just quadruple these amounts.
